Make the record clearer.
Material changes
A material correction should identify the original error, provide the corrected information and record when the correction was made. The article’s update timestamp should change at the same time.
Small fixes
Spelling, formatting and broken-link fixes may be made without implying that the underlying reporting has changed. A new source or a changed conclusion requires a clear editorial note.
